Philippians: Foundation of Joy
The central section of the Christ hymn (2:6-11) is what ties this letter together. And we will use that as a way to understand the repeated theme of joy (rejoice; rejoicing) through Paul’s letter. When he writes it he finds himself in prison, with opposition, and in need of support. Though in the letter he interprets and understands his own circumstances in light of the person and work of Jesus Christ. In that way Paul is calling us to check our own foundation for joy.
